Thanked: 7Fastest San Diego Honing?
I have been using my straight for a couple years now. I have always honed it myself, and it has slowly went downhill. Actually, I think the downhill roll started to pick up steam the last couple months.
I would like to have it honed professionally, so I can see what I have been missing. I was going to send it to classicshaving in Palm Springs, but their site says it takes four weeks. I can't go a month without shaving. I'll look like Grizzly Adams. I only have one razor, so I can't use a backup while the other is gone. Its a TI from the Art of Shaving. Anyone ideas on a quick, proficient honing service? I'm in San Diego, but wouldn't mind sending it somewhere if the turnaround was a couple days. Thanks.

Or drive to Las Vegas and watch Max do it. 1 day round trip. Assuming he's available.

Seems like a bit of stretch, but some people have the time, money, and will to do just that. Party hard enough to develop a wicked 5 o'clock shadow, then shave it off with your wicked sharp freshly honed razor (assuming you don't wager it at the tables in a moment of blind desperation) and no one at home will be the wiser. Except maybe for your fluorescent and neon light tan.

Thanked: 1Hello, im trying not to duplicate threads so i figured i would just bump this one
I just purchased my first str8 a 5/8 dovo. i've been reading on the forums for a couple of weeks now, and am anxious to try my first shave, (just once down the sideburn of course) but i don't want to send it back out as soon as i get it. I've been trying to look around in san diego for someone to hone it but i can't find anything. I should be getting on wed. Does anyone know a shope or someone that hones str8's in SD?

I happily commend you for your own honing. May I ask a question? To what level are you honing your razor (i.e., are you putting a new edge on it frequently)? I have had my razors for a few years and have only used a Nortons 4K/8K (plus a pasted strop) about 3-4 times a year. If you are constantly putting a new edge it something is wrong somewhere. If you are frequently using a low grit stone you are probably wearing down the shoulder.
