That's some good info, BeBerlin, thank you. At the moment I have a vague idea that I'll end up up with a half dozen or so razors. It does make sense that you'd need one razor while your other is being honed. At the moment I only have a 5/8 and a 4/8 as I assumed it would be easier to learn with smaller razors.

You can learn with anything really, it has been considered that smaller blades are more difficult to keep track of in terms of angle, but you can't beat the manouverability.

I actually have 6 that I regularly use (Mehl, Hermann "Special" 7/8 - Straight Razor Place Wiki, Deutsch, Otto "Hans" - Straight Razor Place Wiki, Thiers Issard "Le Grelot" 6/8 Quarter Hollow - Straight Razor Place Wiki, Gebrüder Lutzenkirchen "Seal" - Straight Razor Place Wiki, Sellers, John & Sons "Unnamed 6/8 wedge in ivory" - Straight Razor Place Wiki and Herder, Friedr Abr Sohn GmbH "78" 5/8 - Straight Razor Place Wiki). Then another 10 or so I rarely use. And another 10 I don't really use at all, and actually should sell.

As you can see from my list, I still prefer 5-7/8ths blades. I find smaller blades harder to use, because I don't really need the manoeuvrability, and I hate having to wipe the lather off a blade on every second pass.

Beautiful razors. As much as I usually look at the blades first I must confess I was very taken with the scales on your Gebrüder Lutzenkirchen. I've seen a few razors with garish bright red scales, but the deep red on your razor is very classy.

Thanks. There's a bit of background here: http://straightrazorpalace.com/show-...baby-seal.html. I really, really need to take pictures of it, as the scales actually look even nicer.

Henckels, a good choice in razor, they hone well, the more you shave with a SR the more you are going to like it. It is adictive. Juan.

From what I've read you need at least two straight razors when starting out and you alternate between them if shaving daily. Can someone clarify this for me? Maybe I'm just using that as an excuse to buy more razors ...
    Good excuse
