Thanked: 0Ack! A nick in my straight!
So I was stropping before shaving today and noticed that while dragging it along the strop, the razor was leaving a pronounced mark in the leather. Much to my dismay, closer examination revealed a small nick in the razor, probably due to my noobish stropping skills. (or lack thereof)
What can I do to fix this? I have a free honing certificate from SRD, so theoretically I could get the man himself to fix it, but what do you guys think?

certificate time.
had the same thing happen to me. if its a nice razor, and your not a honer, its time to cash in that certificate.
*a nick in the razor would only be caused by stropping if your doing it way wrong and rough. like if your bearing down or wacking the rings at the end.
you more likely got it setting it on the sink, brushing the faucet while rinsing, or something like that.Last edited by The0ctopus; 06-22-2009 at 07:05 PM.

If the nick is small, which it sounds as if it is. A couple of hits on a hone should fix it. I would hold off on the hone cert unless you do not have a hone to use.

if he cant strop on leather yet than he probably shouldnt be rubbing it with a rock.

Unless your rock is as soft as leather. It should be ok.
A finish stone is all you should need. Now if the chip is 2mm or more square I would probably send that out but it sounds smaller than that.

thats true, i suppose the worst that could happen is you ruin the edge, in which case, youve got the certificate.

That's not the worst that can happen, he could also extend the nick into a crack rather easily, and trash the blade...
Even if you had to pay to have it done, it is wiser in the long run to let one of us that does this a lot fix it.... and for free it is a no brainer!!!
