European honing way ?

I live in Brazil where there is not a Straight razor shaving culture at all. I was trying to find a place to hone my razor. I Ive found a place that hones cirurgical stuf and they said by mail that they hones razors by the "european way" Im not sure but i think it sugests mecanical honing because they said they uses "rebolo" that sugests a rounded stone.
Is it trustable ? What do you think ? Have somebody heard about eropean honing ?

If it's "rounded" it may be a wheel grinder... It would probably be best to not risk it. You said you ordered a stone, correct? If so watch the videos, read the wiki, and sharpen it yourself.

Its weird that they call it the european way.
We use flat hones like almost everybody else in the razor business.

I would not give them your razor.
Better do it yourself, like Dustin said.

This sounds like a grinding wheel to me. Stay away, far, far away. Get your own set of hones and hone it yourself. Honing is not as difficult as some make it out to be. There is a distinct learning curve but by the fifth time or so you should be able to handle your own razor.

Please, don´t send your razor to be honed there. Chances are 99.9% that they will not make any good. Don´t know the place, just using my heuristic.

"Surgical" is quite a loose term. :-)
But think I´m afraid to know what "european honing way" is suposed to be.

They could be referring to a horizontal wheel which makes for a large flat surface rather than a vertical wheel. I recall seeing some microtome sharpening machines that used a horizontal wheel. I have no idea how effective such a contraption would be for making a shaving edge.

Listen to them all! DO NOT send your razor to them! Hey, it's much more satisfying when you learn how to do it yourself and you get that first BBS shave from your own honed razor!

Lets just say the SRP way is proven, works well, and everyone knows what is being referred to on SRP when we discuss honing.

Stick with SRP and you will be OK. In Brazil, you will be the leader in straight shaving.
