    Smile newbie accomplishmennt

Is it not wonderful, a sense of accomplishment to take an old rust bucket straight razor, rescale it with your own handmade scales and fit them to the blade. Polish the blade to a mirror polish. Hone the edge ever so carefull, strop it with every strop you have, just in case. Final test to shave your face to a BBS condition. If you do not enjoy this, then go back and shave with a cheap disposable razor and don't read this thread. Juan.

    Juan,

This is a forum for beginners. If anything, your post would fit much better into the general forum.

Besides which, I seriously doubt that beginners will necessarily enjoy all aspects of learning to shave with a straight razor, let alone make their own scales, or hone their razors.

    Regards,
    Robin

too late for me, i already read the thead, but there are plenty of guys who don't particularly enjoy restoring old razors, or honing.
and some here don't even shave with straight razors, but like to collect them, or some like to restore them....
yeah, it's a fairly diverse community

I have been shaving with straight razors less than six months and I like to experiment just for the fun of it. Getting lucky in honeing and shaving, does not make me an expert in anything. Just because you might have become an expert two weeks after you started shaving with a straight razor, the rest of us are not that talented. I am still a beginner wether you agree or not. Juan.

If I had not read threads from senior members as yourself encouraging rookies like me to venture in other aspects of straight razors, I would not have tried honeing, making scales and even restoration. As for me, a rooky, I must thank you for your encouragement. All subjects are profitable to rookies like me. Thanks, Juan.
