cleaning ... maintenace
how do you clean your razor after shaving?
for me, i seem to have a bit of soap residue on the razor.
i use a dovo "best quality" 4/8 razor. wilkinson soap. i was the razor under hot water then wipe it with a hand towel, but it still leaves some residue.
i am afraid this will damage my razor over time.
what suggestions have you got?

shamwow
I rinse the blade off with hot water, then use a shamwow to clean the blade and scales. I found that paper towels and toilet paper can be hard to pass through the scales, but the shamwow workes great, perfect to pass through the scales and grabs ever bit of water. Then I do 20 passes on the strop to help it dry the edge.

Thanked: 488After you do the above apply a light coating of razor oil. You can get one with an applicator at Japan Woodworkings website.

When I'm done shaving I run the blade under really hot water, then wipe it with a tissue (the heat helps the blade dry). Then I put a dab of mineral oil on another issue and wipe my blade across it, spine leading, which oils the edge.

I just hold it to running hot tap water, and then wipe it off with a towel. If there is still some soap, or hair resdue, i just bend my index finger, and run the razor over it. (If You bend Your finger, there will be a little "hump" at the bending, and You can run the razor over that hump, just like when You strop it.)
