Thanked: 158Success!
Hello everyone. I've been mostly lurking on here for a bit and getting my "education" via the search function and the wiki. I just wanted to say that after about a month or so of straight shaving (and questioning whether I should just go back to my DEs and SEs permanently), I have finally had a week of successful shaves! Not sure if it was just that my technique improved or that I found a blade that was right for me (probably a little of both), but things have certainly "clicked" over the past week. All I know is that my new Bengall is silky smooth, and so is my face
(well, not entirely smooth, but overall more than passable).
Definitely feeling more sold on straight razor shaving, and definitely going to hang in there now as I continue to learn.
Cheers,
Ben

Thanked: 317Great you got your first really good week in. Makes all the difference in the world.
You're probably right that it's a mix of improved skill AND finding the right razor. Be sure you try "different" razors. Style wise, I find myself attracted to the big heavy 6/8 and larger heavy grind razors.
However, I get my very best shave from a tiny 4/8 frameback with a blade so thing I'm always amazed it doesn't fold over.

Thanked: 190Way to go!
BK, way to go and staying with it! I am sure your DE will come handy even if you go with the straight full-time. I still have my Mach 3 hanging around and once in a while, I use it to touch up a rough spot when time is an issue.
SRP is here to help you!

Congratulations & well done on sticking with it. If you are struggling again in the future, think back to that breakthrough & remember that it's just a matter of time & persistence.

Congratulations on staying with it. I was DE shaving for a couple of years and still have a large collection of Gillettes as well as various Slant head razors. My first couple of weeks with a straight I used the DE to finish. Once I got through a complete shave with the straight I haven't shaved with a DE since. I still like my collection but not to shave with. The straights are soooo much better IME.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
