Thanked: 0I've Lost My Way (maybe)
I ordered my equipment through SRP several months ago and have closely read "Beginner's Guide to Straight razor Shaving" and viewed several times Lynn's DVD which came with my equipment package.
Initially and now, shaving was carefully done with attention to recommended techniques per above resources. As time went on, razor stropping became less effective and the razor (a Devo Bismark) became increasingly dull and more difficult to use.
Rereading the Beginner's Guide, I got the impression that my razor needs honing and that all new razors from a manufacturer should be hand honed by a pro.
Please provide some wise words of advice to help me through this.

Thanked: 402Mike what if you send it back to Lynn to get it re honed?
Or do you want to get into honing yourself?

Mike, in addition to what Olivia mentioned and to take it one step further, my thoughts would be to possibly pick up a barber's hone from the classifieds. This, with 3-5 passes, should get your razor back in order.
Enjoy,

If your razor is a few months old than it probably needs to be touched up. If it is your only razor it would be best to send it off to get honed. Learning to hone is great but you should have at least 1 extra razor in case you screw up the edge on the razor you are learning to hone.
Good luck in which ever way you chose to go!!!

A blade has to be maintained somehow if you want to shave with it.
