Default No cuts, no nicks, no weepers!

6 Weeks now with a straight and I can honestly say today was the best shave yet. Until today I would usually wind up with at least a weeper or I would not get as close as I'd like to. Today is different, clean and smooth and best of all, no blood. One issue with the razor though, towards the end of ATG I could feel the heel starting to pull just a bit. Didn't cause any razor burn, I could just feel it. Maybe time for a touch up on the hone? Maybe need to strop a bit better/longer? Any ideas? Besides that everything else this morning was great. It does help to begin the day with a good shave.

Thanks for the advice and the WIKI it sure has helped.

My razors seem to go for about 2-3 months before they want a touch up (I rotate across a couple of razors). They'll still shave fine, but ATG gets a bit tougher. I hit 'em with a coticule + water.

I'll probably start to experiment on how much stropping is really enough-- right now I generally strop 25 on linen (actually "webbing" on my strop), then 50 on the leather each time and I have no idea if that is overkill...

My straight razor teacher tells me that how frequently you hone depends on the thickness of your beard. Those with thck beards will be honing each month while those like me, with thin beards will be doing the honing thing once or twice a year.

Sterling stuff. Would you mind asking your straight razor teacher to review our Wiki articles on honing for accuracy? I think that would be wonderful.
