Thank you all for the replies, very useful information.
I did get my first straight razor shave the other day and they were using disposable razors. Unfortunately I didn't get a reference to this barber shop, and my shave turned out to be horrible. I had to quickly drive back home and reshave, before going to work, after giving them $30. I didn't even give them a tip and I always give tips no matter how bad the serves I've been given.
I won't let this deter me though I'm going to Philly in a few weeks and I will give Joe a call, thank you SlickWillyTFCF.
Looks like I'll be getting a Dovo in the near future. Well my Fiancée will be getting me one for my birthday. Thank you for the suggestions.

    Post you later

He's the owner and recently moved to a slightly larger shop and had to bring on a second barber, Sal. Make sure you have an appointment since they don't take walk-ins. I think he tries to do his shaves earlier in the week because he gets pretty busy toward the weekend. The review says its on Walnut Street, but they moved to 1324 Locust and the new number is 215-545-2626. You might be able to find a few in south philly too.

Also in Center City, Groom is a thoroughly "now" barbershop that prides itself on classic techniques with modern style. But here, instead of watching sports, guys can get a cut and a shave (hot and cold towels, astringent, the works) while listening to great jazz. Rich mahogany wood and lamp sconces give the whole place a Cary Grant sort of vibe. Groom, 1315 Walnut St., Philadelphia, 215.545.5070; www.groomphilly.com

Thanks for this Willy. I've been SR shaving for a few months now but I have never had a "professional" shave. I think I may have to check out this shop. How was the shave itself? Better or worse than one you give yourself? Does he have his own SR's or does he use yours?

You should definitely check it out. The shave was better than the ones I give myself, and it was nice to just sit there and have it done. Joe has his own razor, not sure of the kind though; at the time I wasn't super-interested in straight razors, just the best shave I could get.
