    Default My first shave!

I've just shaved me with a SR for the first time. This morning I got out of bed 30 min. sooner just in case, because I wanted to take my time. Prior to my shave, I had a shower and washed my face with glycerin soap. I used La Toja shaving cream with a 25$ (20€) brush and my new (prehoned) Dovo Spike point.

Now I see that my 3 months shavette experience (and watching tutorials, reading wikis and asking wise people) were very useful, because I had NOT A SINGLE CUT, ladies and gentlemen. In my opinion the shavette is far more dangerous, I used to have at least a few blood spots almost every shave.

I made two passes, one WTG, and the next one I shaved ATG my cheeks, jawline and my neck, and XTG my chin. I'm sporting a cool stache these days, so I saved this area. I only use my right hand, but I manage to switch the angles and positions to cover all my face, the X-man tutorial on Youtube was very useful!. At the first pass I thought it wasn't cutting too much, (I didn't want to use much pressure either) but after the second pass my face was perfect! The a litlle of Nivea after shave and I'm ready to work; no cuts, blood spots or burning. At least as close that with the shavette, though I'm sure it will get even closer with practise.

I don't want to be too self-confident, because I'm sure that I will get cut sooner or later, but I can't help feeling proud of my first time. Thanks everybody for the helping, greetings from Spain, amigos!

Enhorabuena paisano!! I did cut myself a few times at the beginning (God, that was only a month and a half ago!), but now very rarely get a cut anymore (as a coincidence, I did cut slightly this morning after quite a few "non-incident" shaves).

And ATG on your first shave!!!

    Saludos
    Carlos

Congratulations! May you always have as good a shave as you did! But don't get discouraged if you do get a nick every once in a while. It's the best time of day for me! Nothing like a relaxing shave to start the day! And I too am jealous of you being able to get La Toja so readily! That's some good shave cream! WTG!

Thanks to everybody! Yes, I'm sure that I will cut myself sooner or later. Anyway, as I said, I find the real straight razor less dangerous than the disposable edge shavette that I used before, and more comfortable; it's heavier, so you don't even need to put any pressure, and it's much easier to find the right angle.

It's funny that you know La Toja shaving cream. This brand is well known in Spain, you can find it in almost any drugstore or supermarket and it's ridiculously cheap! I use the cream for sensitive skin and it works fine, but I knew that because I've been using it for years, and it's also one of my favourite brands for soaps, after shaves, even deodorants.

I still have a lot to learn; the next shave I will try to strop the razor for the first time, and I will try to make closer shaves with time. All the wiki section, the tutorials on Youtube and the threads of this forum have been (and still are) very helpful. Now I'm glad I found a way to start the day relaxed and in a good mood. Muchas gracias a todos!

Good job! Yes you will cut yourself someday, but it happens to all of us. Good thing it doesn't leave scars!

    Congradulations!

No cuts, I was there once my friend. My first shave ended the same way, not cuts, but wait til you start honing and trying new blades every week... then the math goes against you. lol

Enjoy it.. and kudos to you!
    Cheers
