Thanks and a reco for honing
I'm sorta in between a newbie and the next level up. I have a couple of older razors, one of which I won in the annual SRP giveaway about 1 week after I joined up! I also have two nice Dovo 5/8s. After a variety of life experiences, I'm back into str8s, so I needed to hone up my razors.
I've never gotten the hang of doing this right until I read the article "Setting the bevel and honing with the Norton 4/8 Pyramid", which combines the amazing knowledge and research of Lynn Abrams along with several other people. Without any offense to Lynn or his previous attempts to give me the knowledge, this page really helped me get going.
This afternoon I used the pyramid technique to hone one of my Dovos so sharp it was shaving me on dry skin. Can't wait to try it tomorrow morning. The Norton 4/8 stone is readily available, and the other equipment specified in the article is easily obtained as well.
Thank you, author(s)! Newbies, I think you'll discover as I did that to shave with a str8, you will have to learn at least the basics of honing a formerly well-prepared razor. Lynn did the dirty work on all of mine, but now I know how to keep them working.

Welcome to posting on SRP Joe. You're a living testimony that it works and so am I. I learned from Lynn and the info contained in that article with a thanks to Randy and others on this forum too.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
