First full shave and intro
I've been lurking this site for awhile, taking in tips and watching videos, trying to soak in the information and build up courage to take the plunge.
A few days ago I got a razor from SRD and tried shaving a little here and there. Dovo special 6/8 and strop. I began as the site recommended, shaving only WTG and only certain parts of the face.
This morning was the first full face two-pass shave. It was... AWESOME. I've been using a Mach-3 for at least 10 years and today I got a much closer shave with less irritation. I only had one nick on the chin, in a dimple that I can't really stretch out... any advice on that?
Anyway, about halfway into my shave, my girlfriend came in the bathroom and was like, "I can't watch you do this, you're going to chop your head off with that thing."
I'm not gonna lie, shaving the neck is a little nerve-racking, (I have a predominant adam's apple, and my jugular vein has plenty of beard that must come off) but the fact that you have to focus so much is nice. By the time I was finished and slapping toner on my face, I was wide awake and ready for the day. Usually, I was still half asleep when I finished running a dull blade all over my face. I can tell already, I'm hooked.
Thanks to all on this site for the tips, advice, and good humor. I look forward to getting to know you better.

Sounds like you are well on your way to a great start to the bell curve of learning.
Keep your GF watching maybe you can get her into leg shaving, or get her to let you shave her.
As for dimples. Some facial gymnastics will help as well as some unorthodox stretching.
Keep it up and welcome.

Thanked: 1903Welcome to SRP, Jeff.
Shaving with a straight razor is in fact addictive. As for your problem zones, just give it some time. Rome wasn't built in one day, and it may well take you months rather than weeks to manage all problem zones to your liking. But manage them you will, eventually.
Good luck, and keep us posted,
Robin

Congrats on the first complete shave and especially on doing the reading to get there the right way. On the chin I have found that placing my thumb on one side and forefinger on the other stretching toward my ears is effective to give the tension I need to clean the whiskers. I come at it from one side and then the other XTG.
I have found that like a barber video recently posted says, stretching is the key to successful shaving. Check it out here. There are some good moves in it that you can apply to your own shaving. Stretching the skin off to the side of the adam's apple for example.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Hey Jeff,
Welcome aboard. I myself am a newbie here too. Been at the shave scene for a little over a month now. I too am getting some GREAT shaves. Yes be aware that it is very addictive. I am so tempted to buy more razors and different creams. I have to slow myself down.
But anyway, welcome to the forum. Good luck with the shaves.
Mike
