On vacation
Well, the good news is I'm on vacation in Maui with the family, the bad news is I did not pack the straight. After 5 months using the straights exclusively, I've had to fall back on the Mach3 (and canned "shaving cream" to boot). The contrast is amazing. Not only is the shave not nearly as close, shaving with the Mach just feels "numb". There is no feedback at all. The part of my brain that has learned the straight shaving skill is complaining bitterly...

Do we have any Maui members that can help a brother out? How long are you there? I'd ship one to you if it would get there in time to make a difference.

Thanked: 13Sorry to hijack your thread, but since it's about travel... This is probably a stupid question, but have you guys ever had any trouble bringing styptic pencils or alum blocks aboard a flight (either in carry-on or checked luggage)?

Thanked: 190No problems. Enjoy Maui and grow a beard rather than subject yourself to a Mach 3.

Ah, yeah, you'll likely make it!
I brough t a double arrow with me to Maui in December, which is what led to my recent thread about travel strops for the big razors. I shaved with that balde for two weeks, and though it worked just fine...I'd rather bring one of my favorites next time, even at the risk of having TSA "borrow" it.

Dang, I wished I would have seen this post sooner. I would have recommended you eat at Pita Paradise in Kihei. The owner fishes in the AM and cooks the catch within hours at the small inexpensive restaurant. He's the fisherman and the chef. Just killer.
I hope you enjoyed Maui.
