Thanked: 41So what is your routine?
Well I may or not be a newby. I have been shaving with a str8 since late Dec. You call it.
My routine is: I have an 8 day rotation of blades. I make them all SR. I then use them one by one. When a blade needs work it goes to the back of the rotation. I then have a 7 day rotation. I go this way usually until I have a 4 day rotation of SR blades. I then will touch up all the blades, usually on a Barbers hone and possibly on a chrom ox or diamond str
op. I then repeat the 8 day rotation.
What do you guys/women do?

I grab one out of the collection and use it. When it starts to pull a little I hone it. I have my favorites but use all that I have. No set order!

Thanked: 2209My routine? Well, I have none. I will hone a razor, shave test it, hone it shave test etc. until I like it. I will continue using that razor until I hone another razor for somebody else or one of my own. I do not have the most razors of the guys here on SRP but if I honed one per week it would take 15 years to get them all honed!
Rotation? Ya gotta be kidding me!Randolph Tuttle, a SRP Mentor for residents of Minnesota & western Wisconsin

I have no routine these days. I shave whenever I can get away with it and count myself lucky to have a sharp razor. Such is the life of this stay at home dad. *sigh*

Hmmm,
I like the idea of rotating through my razors but I currently shave with one until it starts pulling or getting duller and then move on to the next one. I stay with one until its in need of some TLC not on a frequent rotation.
Then to the next, I of course have my favorites...as we all do.
I also am always on the hunt for my next purchase.

I have about 14 razors. Usually I vary from day to day which one I use. A lot depends on what mood I'm in.
When a razor is dull I put it a side until I have three or four that are ready to be honed.Last edited by Otto; 08-03-2009 at 11:38 AM.

Thanked: 15I have five straight razors and rotate them on a Thursday to Monday schedule. I use a DE on Tuesday and Wednesday since I work on those days and I start rounds at the hospital at O-Dark-30. Full retirement in 17 months, God willing, will no doubtedly be an incentive to add two more razors and go to a seven day rotation.

I'm similar to Randy in that I am usually honing one razor or another and shave testing off the 8k to begin with and then further up the grit ladder. When that razor meets my approval it is on to the next.
If I'm not honing one in particular on a given day then I look at the pile of over 100 and pick out the one that calls to me.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 155I have six razors, and I use them more or less in a regular cycle. When a blade needs honing, I hone it and return it to its place in the cycle.
