    Default YAY!!!

Well the mail here in Iraq finally came in and my much anticipated plunge into the world of straight razor shaving will begin tomorrow. Got a RupRazor strop and a Dovo straight. Only thing that didn't come in was my Zihr prep stuff so I'll had to get some shaving gel from the PX. I'll post pics of the bloodbath (I'm realistic about my skill level) when I log on tomorrow Wish me luck

    Good Luck!
It'll be fine. Start slow. Stretch well. Don't try more than you should at this stage & keep the touch light.

    +1 on Ben.mid's advice.
Congrats on the new shaving kit and do let us know how things go.

    Thanks,

Oh I've read LOTS of posts on it. The newbie section and the wiki and Dovo includes a bunch of reading material with the blade, but I fear I may get overexcited and try for a full shave first time out lol. I've already informed the medics.

To be honest, i did the full shave. It went ok, but the burn was unbelievable! It's not the best way by far. Heat of the moment & all that!

    Mythos,

One thing to remember is to NOT stop the razor on your face to admire where the whiskers no longer are, or to hold the razor on your face while planning on how to start the stroke. Keep the spine close to your face and the razor moving and things will work out just fine.

Welcome to the group of the similarly afflicted.

    Welcome Mythos!

Ditto to every thing said here. I did the full shave on my first time as well. I was just too excited. It happens, and it is nothing to be ashamed of. But, definitely tell us how it went.

Well thought I'd give an update. Did my first straight razor shave this morning and like I had predicted ended up doing my entire face. Other than some good razor burn I didn't even cut myself Although now my sideburns are crooked and uneven but I'll fix that later. Now I can't wait for my hair to grow back so I can do it again. I am so addicted now lol.

    Welcome onboard.

Sounds like a very good start. The learning curve might get frustrating at times, but the shaves will get amazing.

    Stay safe.
