    Default My first shave!

So um, I didn't flollow your advice and shaved my entire face the first time :P. I took my time and I didn't hurt myself even though ive been using mach3/fusion blades for about 5 years. The one im using right now is an all stainless steel body and double edged blades. I prepared everything as you people posted and my shave was a breeze, I did it slow because I was scared of cutting myself but I have no irritarion in my face and it feels really soft, not to mention this is one of my closest shaves ever and it was my first (Only used with the grain method, until im familiar with it) Either way if I keep writing ill never end... I need to buy lathering cream and a brush but either way im satisfied I still wonder why people are scared of straigh razors

Welcome and congrats. You're either, one of those people for whom it just clicks straight off the bat, or you got lucky. Either way, good on you, avoid over confidence and enjoy.

    Default confuse-ed

I am a bit confused, what is a double edged straight razor? or are we referring to the vintage double edge razors that take gillette blades and similar. Oh, and i had been looking at these modern straights like Dovo online, and I pulled out one of my razors from my collection, I was looking for an old Case tested XX travel razor and happened to open up a razor sleeve containing a Hienr Boker&Co. Edelweiss, and thought, what the heck. Man! What a sweet Shaving Tool!! I realized I don't need one of those modern manufactured models when I got a thousand or more good old vintage ones to choose from here at home. Well at least not right now! Since finding this site, i have decided to start indulging in the art or Straight razor shaving more so, and not just collecting these babies.

Great to hear you are on your way to Straight Shaving. My Mach 3 is a passe razor since I took up straight shaving. Straight Shaving takes a little more time and care, but in the end, I get a much better shave and I don't get the ingrown hairs that I would get from using the Mach 3. While learning to Straight Shave, I would use the Mach 3 to clean up areas as I was learning. But the day came when there was no need for the Mach 3 as the straight shave was superior.

Keep reading up on the SRP Wiki as you progress and everyone is very helpful in this forum.

Congrats and Welcome to both of you!

The DE Straight that he is referring to is commonly referred to as a shavette, the kind that beauticians use, where you snap the DE in half and snap it into the razor. While this method works, a traditional straight is much better. I can testify to that, having used a shavette for about a week and a half, and just having gotten my first traditional str8 last night.

Great to hear that people are finding this as enjoyable as I am. If you can get a brush and real cream or soap, it makes the experience infinitely better than using the canned goop.

Like you guys, I shaved my entire face the first time. I cut myself a few times that night, but it was alright, they weren't bad and have just about finished healing.

Anyway, keep it up, and keep us posted on your progress.
