Default My first shave as well

Hello everyone! I got my first straight from ruprazor.com yesterday and felt like a child waiting to see if the tooth fairy left some money under my pillow the next morning.

I read Jeremy's experience and grinned since I went through almost exactly the same thing except that I got a nick and just told myself "yup, welcome to the world of straight shaving kiddo".

I didn't get a close shave as well (which I understand is expected) and the funny part for me was after I did 2 passes above my lip I coudn't see any difference from what I had before I started to shave!

I decided to stick to WTG for today and plan to practice every morning until I get that much-coveted BBS feel.

Welcome to SRP. If you came away from, your first shave with just one nick you did good. Don't worry about BBS that will come in time. This is the place to get questions answered and a WIKI with much of the needed information to all things about straight razor shaving. Good luck can't wait to hear of your progress.

welcome - I too am new - just go slow - while nicks are common ground in the beginning, if you give yourself too big a weeper, you could be waiting for it to heal before you can shave again. I have found letting your face rest a day or two between straight shaves is agreeing with my skin - plus it gives me time to think about what I did last and how I can improve.

It is quite exhilerating isnt it?

    very!

I nicked the skin to the left of my nose while trying to position the blade above my lip. First time for me to use an alum block as well and I didn't know using it stings!

THAT is a painful learning experience! Glad your first shave went well, though... and it sounds like your patient approach will have you shaving very well.

Resist the temptation to lift the edge of the blade away from your face (ie, don't try to shave with the just the tip of the toe). Once I figured that out, I have not had a cut since... (aside from nicking the ear now and then...)

    Good luck and welcome aboard!

I remember my first cut under the nose! Someone had mentioned that you see a cut before you feel it and I'd cut myself on my cheek without feeling it, so when I moved the razor to shave under my nose I suddenly noticed the cut on my cheek and was so surprised I jerked and gave myself another one inch slice.

    Welcome, Paolo!

Glad to hear it went well.

I don't really have much to add to what has been said, other than keep at it, and keep reading here. I learn something new almost every time I come here, which is just about every day .
