Thanked: 21Newbie razor identification question
I was recently looking over a lot of straight razors and there were a few safety razors mixed in which didn't really interest me but one was very strange. It was in a very nice rolls royce razor box with leather strops that could flip out, but it didn't take safety razors but rather had a head that looked a lot like a lathe which was about 1 inch. This head was adjustable and looked strange to say the least.
Has anyone seen anything like this?
Appreciate the help.

Is this the razor you're referring to (picture courtesy of B&B)? If so, I have one, although I haven't shaved with it. It has a built-in hone and strop. You use the handle that's attached to the box to strop and hone the blade. Then you remove the blade and attach it to the smaller removable handle to shave. There's a bunch listed on Ebay.

Thanked: 21Yes, that's the one. I wonder how it shaves. Any reason you haven't tried it?

The strop on mine has deteriorated quite a bit and the hone is too fine to put a keen edge on the too dull blade. One of these days I may try honing it on my straight razor hones to see if I can make it shave ready. Some folks over on the Badger & Blade forum have done this and claim it shaves extremely well.

Thanked: 4942These Stroppers are pretty cool. Tom Willard at the Cincy gathering last year has the biggest collection in the world of these. He will be there this October too.
There are some pics of a bunch of these in the thread below.

Funny you should mention it!
I have one of these and I was just about to take a picture and ask if anyone knew what the heck it was!
I can't even remember how I inherited it, and I never knew what it was, but I stumbled across it the other day looking for something else altogether. It was then that I realized the built-in hone and strop. I figured that there must be some sort of handle that I'm missing? Or is the box the whole kit? Is there some way to shave with this thing? It might be a great travel razor!
