Default Yet another first straight shave post

Yesterday I got my package in the mail, a gold dollar/filly strop combo off of ruprazor.com. Today I used Col conks bayrum soap, a drop of AOS shaving cream, and a col conks badger brush. I first did it just with my sideburns and cheecks. That went very well, so I preceeded to my neck. So far so good. I went for an XTG on my cheecks and sideburns, just did another WTG pass on my neck. no problem. I decide thats good enough for today, no nicks. I'm excited. I want to thank Ken for the good service and quick shipping.

Sounds good, I'm pretty new at this myself but haven't experienced many issues to date, the razor burn is more pronounced with the straight but that will go away with time. I haven't been using any pre shave stuff, just some soap or nivea shave gel/cream which actually works very well and I already had a can from a few years ago.

Sounds like a GREAT first shave! Mine resembled the knife fight from West Side Story... Welcome to the addiction.

Very cool. It only gets better the more practice you get. Sounds like you read the tutorials and did it the right way.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Sounds like a real good start. Stay careful and remember the learning curve. You will become more comfortable with each shave. Good luck.

Congratz on the first shave experience, the tutorials IMO are the way to go, i resisted the temptation to go further on my first shave and let the confidence and technique build day by day.

the tutorials helped, and I also have a goatee, so I didnt have to worry about the chin. it also probably helped that I wetshaved for a good while before getting the money for a straight.
