In that case you'll want a higher grit stone for sure. Personally, I'd recommend the Shapton 16K, which is what I've used to touch my DOVO up and it gives a great finish. 6 passes was all it took to restore the edge and its like new now. The Norton 4/8 and the Shapton 1k will be too low a grit for touch ups IMHO.

I really like the Shaptons, they give a good edge and work well as a complete honing system if you have several of them. Plus there are loads of people on the forum who use them, so theres lots of experience out there if you have a problem. I also went with them because, when I spoke to Don at SRD, he recommended them. Simples!

And they look good I think..! Always a plus!

i am a little confused.did you say you need to keep aleady shave razor in shave ready condition? If yes then you should go cheaper way buy barber hone. If you want sharpen razor then you will need1k 4k 8k.GL

+1 to this. Barber hones are very good at what they do.

I'm also looking for a finishing hone for touch-ups myself, and one helpful member here suggested I buy a Chinese 12k from Woodcraft - only $20 plus shipping, and more than adequate for touch-ups.

Check out the wiki too, it tells you just what hones you need, what various common types of hone are used for (1k, 4k, 8k, 12k etc), as well as how to lap and use a hone properly.
