    Default New to SRP

Wow, what a great resource! I've just started a few weeks ago with an old Joseph Elliot that I did some work on...I'm waiting for some $ to put towards a Norton stone and some replacement scales. It works well, but it needs a major cosmetic overhaul! I'm a musician and I feel that the quiet, contemplative 10 minutes I spend shaving is somewhat like the discipline of practicing. I put some videos on Youtube - I have a pretty good first pass, but kind of a scroungy second pass. Any advice?

I look forward to being in the loop!

    welcome to srp,

your razor would need more than just the norton 4000/8000 hone. your best option is to send it to get it honed by somebody with the tools and the experience.

Welcome to SRP. Here is the SRP Wiki with tutorials on shaving, stropping, honing and all things pertinent to straight razor shaving in case you haven't already accessed it. The individual forums are chock full of information too.

If there is something specific you're interested in finding out the search function works well and if you ask in a new post there is undoubtedly someone else out there who needs to read the same info so ask away.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

    Default thanks!

I appreciate the direction - I'll spend the day combing the site! I also thought just the link itself would post, not the window - is there a better way to do this?

    thank you for posting video.

wow i watch the video and i have to say a lot.
At first i have to say to take your hand razor and go ahead start using it is a brave action by You.
Now what i say is just guide you. not to put your down at all.
At first your strokes are wrong .
Angle is too much i think i saw it is almost 45 degree you should go way down at least 30 degree . in 45 you are not shaving just scraping your skin.
when you made second pass you crossed your hands don't do that you will end up cutting your hand badly
Never touch with your finger cutting edge wipe out etc while you shave
    .
    what i can advise .
Please when you shave your wrist stays stable including finger looks like Robort hand and do strokes. will better if your stroke will go tip forward motion . will cut easier.
Second forget about shaving ATG YOU CAN do it later.
lastly you are in great place and enjoy ask questions i am sure you will get great help.
    GL

    Lightbulb

And just for completeness, there's WTG = with the grain, and XTG = across the grain.
