Default Well got my first couple of passes out of the way!

Well I read Lynn's informative thread for beginner straight shavers and it helped a lot. It is definitely a confidence builder. I started with the blade flat on my face and did one slow deliberate pass and took no hair off LOL. Then I re-lathered the area and started flat and tilted the blade slightly and did a pass and this time I heard the hair coming off. So I re-lathered and at the risk of causing a little irritation did another pass of the same area. I must say the resulting shave was very smooth and most importantly no cuts! over the next couple of weeks I will keep progressing until I am able to do the entire shave with the straight. Thanks to Lynn for writing such a helpful piece.

Congratulations! It all comes together in time. Just a bit of advice though, try not to get discouraged when learning to shave your chin. Take it slow and a little bit at a time. You may need to finish it off with whatever your previous shaving method was, rather then persevere and endure small cuts and nicks, I speak from the knowledge of blowing through a stypic pencil already. I've only been using a straight for a few months now and I am just getting the blade angle and strokes right for my chin. Best of luck!

Well fortunately I wear a goatee so i don't have to tackle that right now. The bad part is I won't learn to shave the chin area for a while but the goatee has been on for years and rarely has it been taken off.

That is cool. As you progress and focus on skin stretching, blade angle and what have you you'll find the shaves get better and better. They also get quicker. Not like in a hurry, rather just less wasted motion because you start to know what you're doing.

I had a mustache for years but shaved it just to have something else to shave. I could do my whole head I guess but I never cared for the Kojak style and that is where I'm drawing the line.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

But if you shaved your head, not only would you have more shaving fun, you'd also get to use those hones more often that you love so much. You might even need to purchase a couple more. From what I've read, head hair is pretty hard on an edge. Just think about it.....

i have been at it about 5 months and still have a little trouble with the chin area. it is getting better with each shave. do not get discouraged, it will come. trust me when i say it will get better with time and you will get a sense of accomplishment with each thing learned from the process..most of all just enjoy and relax
