Default How do you store your razor after use?

Keep it in a drawer? The box (if it came with one?) Make a leather case for it? Any suggestions? Typically oxidation occurs in drawers sometimes so I'll take any advice I can get!

I made a razor rack to store the razors I'm using:

Seven Day Razor Rack « Keen Edge

After use I rinse, wipe clean with a tissue, strop 25 times on linen, coat with mineral oil and leave them open overnight. I don't have any little kids running around to worry about though.

what exactally does the linen do? Just fine up the edge a bit? Can you get that at a leather store?

Most leather strops come with a cloth strop of some kind. That's what I'm talking about, doesn't have to be linen per se. For the most part I'm stropping on cloth, after shaving, to help clean off and dry the edge.

Oh, ok. Dangit. I didn't know that. I was going to make a strop because I have some latigo laying around. I didn't know I needed the cloth/linen part.

Strop and lay on a barber's box in a closet high enough that my kids can't reach.

I don't know if you *need* the cloth side. From what I understand the purpose/usefulness of the cloth side is somewhat debatable, and there are differing opinions of course. I just use the cloth side because it's there and I think it makes sense to clean the edge with it, and I know other people more experienced than I do it that way. I'm sure there are those who never use the cloth strop. I was just giving you my routine, which is just one way. In a year I may have a different set of steps I follow.

Depending on what the backside of the leather you'll be using looks like, you could possibly clean your blade on the backside. Or you could make a cloth strop if you really wanted to.

Here's a thread on that very subject:

I really like the look of that rack you made, especially with that old strop acting as a cushion. It also gives it a very distinct look. Good on ya!

Wipe it dry, close it up, put in my leather case, zip the case close. This has worked for me for years.

I apply baby oil with a q-tip, then it goes on my brush-razor stand
