    Exclamation Newbie who needs help!!!

    Hello,

*Sorry in advance for being a clueless newbie*

My name is Nolan, and i have allot of questions, to make a long story short. just recently my grandfather passed away. When i was looking through some old boxes and some other of his stuff and found a straight razor. The man was a father to me so when i saw it, it imeadately had sentimental value. I believe it was his, if not it was his fathers.

    the engraveings say

    THE IMPROVED EAGLE RAZOR

    IMPERIAL RAZOR
    WARRENTED
    REGISTERED 20507
    GERMANY

    here are some pics

any info you guys can give me, such as:
history behind the manufacturer, value(even though i would NEVER sell it), can i get the handle replaced? is it hard to restore? and anythign elese.

thank you all and sorry again for being a newbie and clueless about this whole process.

    thanks
    -Nolan(UsarmyMP)

Everything he said. My first straight razor was an heirloom as well. The only thing I'd do myself would be to use some metal polish (e.g. Maas) to see how well it cleans up. Then send it off to someone to be restored.

When you do contact a member for restoration, please make sure you tell them that it's an heirloom.

There are dozens of restoration threads in the gallery. Check them out and you'll see some of SRP's wonderful artwork.

    Nolan,
How very lucky you are to have found such a link to your grandfather! I would leave it alone and not restore it with new scales. The rusting on the blade should be stabilized but very light work on the blade as you can easily remove the gold wash and the engraving.

Welcome to SRP. Personally I would have it restored by a pro in the member services here and shave with it. Then pass it on to the next generation.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I can't tell from the pic what kind of etching you have there...

But look through this thread and see what can be done

    and this one

    and this one

All these were done in part with a Tumbler, I can't say for sure on yers if it will work, but that has been the best way I have found so far....

Welcome, good luck and well done
They guys on here know there stuff like no one else. I have learnt so much just reading threads on this forum, it would have taken me that long to find things out had I not joined here, I would most likely have given up!

If you decide to go the restoration route check out the gallery and contact the member who you feel can do your Razor justice, if their a senior member or above you will not go wrong! thats not to say members with less forum experiance aren't as good, I just mean this place is full of guys that know their Sh#t

Good luck again, and best wishes to you

First and foremost,THANK YOU, for your patriotism and selflessness to be in our military.
Second, IMO, Iwould or have the blade cleaned up, rescaled, and use it.
I do not mean like new restoration though.

Do what will be the most enjoyable for you to remember your grandfather.
