    Default My first shave

OK... I tried my first shave today. I must say that i do like this. I tested the razor for sharpness and it cuts hair like butter. I got all ready, showered and got equipment all ready to go. I stropped about 10-12 times keeping the strop nice and straight. Then i commenced to shaving half my face. I have to say Lynn's DVD helped a great deal. During the shave i did notice a bit of pulling.... but i have figured that par out cuz i stropped on the wrong side of the leather. I only nicked myself once so thats good for a start. especially since i almost tore my face off with a Gillette when i first started shaving. My soap also dried up a bit I don't know if thats from slowness or from not enough water.

I can't wait to do it again in a couple of days

    Welcome to SRP.
Learning to make a good lather is also part of the experience. I'd post a link to the wiki article on it, but it is kind of hard being on the phone, and all. Hopefully someone else will.

About the soap drying up, don't worry! When I take a long time shaving the soap dries too, and in fact can become a bit caked and almost gummy if left on long enough. Try dipping your brush in hot water sometimes instead of the soap dish, and rewetting the soaped areas still to be shaved. Each time the brush returns to your face, it doesn't have to bring more soap!

    Welcome! Congrats on the shave!

you mentioned only stropping 10-12 times you might want to bump that up to 30 on each (linen then leather) should be fine.

Can I ask what soap you use? As stated it is most likely too dry or too much time spent on face but will improve with each shave I know lather was one of the toughest things when I started
