    Default First Month Complete

    Hi all,
Last month when I got my first straight razor none of my friends understood my excitement. Since then I have shaved every day, rather than my previous schedule which was about twice a month, and I am loving it. Though my friends are convinced I am crazy and am going to slice myself up, I just finished my first month with a straight and hardly a nick. I am getting better, more comfortable shaves than I ever had before using a straight and at this point can't imagine going back to my old Gillette. Thankfully I found this place, and now I can be with others who share my new interest.

    Thanks for the reply.
I recently asked for a straight razor for my birthday, but not knowing anything about them I didn't make any specifications. I got a Dovo "Best Quality" from Vintage Blades, so I guess the person that gave me it did some homework. After using regular shaving cream (Barbasol) a few times I ordered some Taylor's of Old Bond Street shaving cream and an Edwin Jagger brush. I am especially enjoying the shaving cream, which made a big difference from what I had been using.

Awesome gift and at least you know it's truly shave ready since it's vintage blades. TOBS is a great brand I haven't got to try them yet but soon.Your brush is also a nice quality very impressed it is a great set-up all around.

You forgot to mention a strop though?

Another thing I forgot to mention. I think much of my success was due to YouTube. Before attempting my first straight shave I closely watched some videos, including Lynn's, of people using straights. Then, after a couple of shaves, I watched them again while paying close attention to areas that were giving me trouble.

Oh yeah, the strop came with the razor and is made by Vintage Blades. The secondary strop is linen. Not that I really know much about them, but it is obviously very well made and seems really nice.

Good stuff just wanted to make sure you weren't using a zeepk or something.

Try looking for mantic59 on youtube, he doesn't use a str8t but you can learn alot about lather and brush care.

also like I said the video section has a bunch of the youtube shave videos in one spot for you to enjoy and learn.

my favorite is still bladeweilders I like that guys swagger

Glad to hear of another satisfied user. Welcome to SRP this is the place for str8 shavers. Questions are always welcome and there is extensive information in the WIKI for everyone.
