Thanked: 0I inherited an Ern Straight Razor from my Great Grandpa
I'm only 17 but my great grandpa died when I was maybe 1 or 2 and I got one of his straight razors (he used to be a barber). It's an Ern and it's registered and has a serial number and all I just wanted to know if there was any way I could find any info on it...it is really nice. Black handle and the blade is silver and has in gold a boat and neat little design and it says "10 Jahre Garantie" I just want to know whats up with this thing.

Honestly, it doesn't hurt to try. Well, I guess in this case it can. I might be the clumsiest person ever, but I decided to try straight razor shaving anyway and I love it. But you will never know if you don't try, and I think it would give you a real connection to a relative you never knew.
It is 100% your call though. You can always change your mind in the future. The first year I used a DE (double edge) razor I swore I would never pick up a straight.

You've got quite a treasure there, it was your Great-Grandfather's, and now yours. You very well in the future may change your mind and want to use it. Take good care of it. It looks like it's in good shape but razors can rust if the conditions are right. I'm sure you know that, just make sure you look in on it from time to time, to make sure it's OK. If you plan on laying it aside for an extended period you might want to think about getting some Renaissance Wax to keep the razor in good shape. Alternatively some type of light oil, just make sure the razor is dry.
You've got a great resource here in SRP, if you ever need any more information or help.

Welcome to SRP,
that would be a model number, not a serial number

Here's the deal- I just bought one of these quite cheap intending to sell it. Now that I've seen it in person and shaved with it I can't part with it. It's a great shaver and that seems to be a common sentiment.
On the other hand if you don't want to shave with it, I personally would keep it because its an heirloom.
If you don't want to keep it though its worthless, you might as well just send it to me. :-P JK.
