    Default Traveling...

So I am a college student going to school 600 miles from where I grew up. When I go home it is by plane, making wet-shaving difficult unless i ship blades home (I'm a recent convert from DEs). I know I can't take a straight on a plane (for obvious reasons), but I'm not really sure how to go about putting it in a checked bag to ensure I don't arrive in Indiana with a razor in pieces. Would my best bet be to just ship one of razors home and leave it there? That seems kind of extreme... Not to mention I wouldn't be able to use it here.

Worse case scenario, I guess I just move one of my old DEs home with a pack or two of blades.

When I fly I put the razor into my checked luggage. Never had a problem. I minimise the risk by packing a cheaper bade (I usually pack a Wapi) and putting it inside a wooden case or razor coffin. Some people might also put an elastic band around it to ensure the blade stays protected inside the scales. And for good measure stick the whole package inside a pair of socks.

Travelling with straight razors has been easy for me-never a problem in dozens of trips. I will be in Washington DC for 4 days this week; here is my gear list for my checked baggage..

Two razors in an antique folding leather case-it goes in an inside pocket of my suitcase. Not valuable ones, but good shavers.
One strop with shoelaces attached, to secure it to a doorknob in my hotel room.
One barber hone wrapped in bubblewrap and kept in a small tupperware container, along with a small scrub pad to clean it with.
A very small round tupper with my shave soap melted into it.
My badger brush, styptic pencil and aftershave live in my toiletry kit.
After my shaves, I rinse and dry the razor and leave it open to finish drying for about half an hour before I leave for work. I hide my razors in a drawer to avoid tempting the maid or any other intruder from playing with them. That's about it!

I definitely subscribe to the school of sock packing! Dozens of flights never breaking anything, from cologne bottles to DEs
