looking to learn
Ok i have been shaving with a "surgical straight razor" with the changable blades fro a couple years now,due to a lack of materials and information on the real deal. Now i am really wanting to learn how to stropp, hone, and use a real straight razor. If anyone can point me in the right direction on buying hones, and stropps, as well as using them i would welcome it. I would also appreaciate any info on where to get a good razor.
thanks

Although im still learning quite a bit. Every question you have can be found in the WIKI. The wiki here helped me out with all my questions when i was first starting. Go there and read up first, then any remaining questions will be surely answered here by the guys with the knowledge/not me lol
edit-Also, your question about where to buy a good razor. The classified section is excellent for that. Honestly i have gotten some great buys from here, 5 of my 6 razors have all been shave ready by some excellent members. I suggest buying pretty much any roundpoint that a member named "HI BUD GL" sells. Top notch stuffLast edited by shorynot; 09-29-2009 at 07:10 AM.

Welcome to the club! Once you figure out what you want (reading the wiki, searching threads, asking questions), then you can find your stuff either on this site's classified section, or checking out the many online vendors who advertise here.
Happy hunting

Thanked: 1262Savage,
1) I am going to assume that you are looking to purchase your first "real" Straight razor and strop, correct?
2) I am also assuming you allready use a brush and soap/cream?
3) I would concentrate on getting a shave ready blade and strop for now and worry about getting into honing later. Baby Steps

Yup, baby steps. some of the people here who sell stuff have razor w/ strop kits. i prefer 5/8 round point or spanish. full hollow grind. feels much better on my face. heavier grinds for heavier beards. lighter grinds for lighter beards. i massacre myself w/ spike points going atg. some memebrs here make their own strops and sell for very reasonably. i prefer strops w/ heavier draw. but thats just me.
