Funny thing about it all...what with wet shaving as a whole...I know more about shaving now than I ever did. It's like I've learned a new language and lifestyle in just a few short months.

Probably one of these days you will talk with one of these fellas that has been into it for decades and you will realize or maybe even be told that you have a long long way to go, you are trying to and want to run but you need to learn to walk good first, there really is a lot more to learn than you realize at this time. There's really no hurry, just enjoy it. I have literally a hundred different shaving soaps and creams, many just sample sizes and many regular sizes, in my shave den. It takes others a little to get used to our obsession with shaving. But that's ok too. I think many kind of freak out at first, one of my buds called me 'the missing link'.

Very true. And it came truer today while shaving. I was debating on the DE, because I was getting ready for work. and needed to hurry. But, I said, I'm going to keep making excuses not to use it, use it!

I did.

The N-S pass went well.

For the second, I took the suggested Ear to Mouth pass. That went well on the left side of my face, using my right hand. The right side, cheeks went...let's say they got shaved and the neck portion didn't go so well. I was using right hand, right side. Then I tried left hand, nope.

The hard part was figuring out how to place that blade at the proper angle to cut just hair, not me, and bring it forth. Tricky. I was fumbling around like a virgin in the sack.

I reminded myself, I was like, "Self, this is merely your third time shaving like this. STFU and relax." So, I did.

The chin. All I can say is I feel bad to Leno or whoever shaves him. That is one tricky beast. In grammar school the kids poked fun at a guy, calling him no chin. Oh, how I envy him.

I have chin fillets ready to fry. It's just cumbersome to me to place this 8 foot razor/ sword onto that little area and get the hair off. I'm thinking of my chin surgically broken, then place a hinge in so I can make it flatter.

All that rambling to say. This is stuff fun. These are just the growing pains of baby steps. Others outside our realm of understanding, or is that insanity? They'd not realize why I would call such torture fun. Here, you were all once one of me. You understand. It's like learning to play the guitar. At first, your fingers hurt.

Here's how you do that without the pain, mess and doctor bills. When you look at your chin pay close attention to the contours and then imagine those contours as smaller flat planes, shave each flat plane according to its needs.

I do think one wise investment will be a shaving mirror. Seems it'll prove more helpful instead of leaning over the counter and sink and guessing. But, I usually shave in a hotel (such as today) and I've got enough things I travel with....

I'll get one and if it makes life that much easier, I'll bring with. If not...it'll stay at the home den.

One of the more important things is that you just enjoy it, now that shaving has become more than just a daily chore just be patient and enjoy this new part of your life. Now, one thing that I would personally recommend is to work on learning to use both of your hands alternately to hold the razor when you shave, it is just good for you in general to be able to do things with both hands and who knows one day you may need to be able to do it for one reason or another, of course if you are ambidextrous then no worries, I have seen some fellas use only their dominant hand and that is ok too. And I personally almost always do a complete ATG (against the grain) pass at the end of shaving, it is the only way that I can get the super smooth result that I like. This like many aspects of this new part of your life are ultimately relegated to personal preferences - shaving techniques, exactly how hold the razor to get the results that you like according to how your own wiskers grow, what kind of razor that you like, the brush, the mug, what kinds of soap and creams, what consistencies and fragarances, etc.
