The Shave Test!
If it doesn't work, then you know it needs to be honed.

Thanked: 416some times when the salesman says it is shave ready it is most time it aient! so just give it a try. Don't strop it just do a good beard prep and shave with it take it slow and keep the angle correct, let the razor do the work don't force it. if it pulls, drags, pulls stop and send it to be honed. DON"T make a mess out of your face trying to shave with a dull razor.

Go here, Customer Service - The Art of Shaving explain your situation.
Ask them, if they have a honmeister who hand hones and shave test there razors before mailing them out. If they give you any answer, other than "yes, we do", then send it to SRD, for honing.
