Default How does a Feather shavette compare?

I've been using a Feather shavette for about a week and I've been cutting myself less and less each day. I'm considering going for the real thing but all I can think of is that a real razor will be heavy and ultra sharp.

So, how sharp is the feather anyway? It seems to pull with my coarse beard. I also have no problem shaving under my nose where I thought I would.

Having nothing to compare it with, I want to know whether I should stick with the Feather for the time being. I figure I can learn to use it without the concern of it being shave ready. If, on the other hand it is teaching me bad habits, then maybe I shouldn't be learning on it.

I started shaving with a shavette using Feather blades. I then switched to a real blade recently and probably due to the fact im honing it myself, the Feather blades were much sharper, although the real blade is more forgiving, if your confident with the shavette the transition will be easy (provided you purchase a professionaly sharpened blade). That has been my experience.

i think you would be much happier with a regular straight razor. just make sure, real sure that the blade has been honed by someone like lynn abrams or another honemeister. having the blade shave ready is the most important step. if you can shave with what you are using now, you can shave probably better with a straight. just remember that all straights are not the same, some are better, it is up to the person shaving to make that decision. i started out with a new dovo perlex from vintagebladesllc and now i have several that i picked up at other sales. i also have learned how to hone, which gives you more pride with the outcome of your shave. if cost is a concern, look in the classifieds here, there are always great deals on shave ready razors there....good luck
