Thanked: 1Hello Hello
Hello all.
I've been a long time browser of the site and have been DE shaving almost a year and a half and have dabbled into straghts about a month ago. I'm currently using a "Top Flight" hollow ground. Nothing fancy, but does the job!
My main question would be:
What are your experiences between a wedge and a hollow ground?

Thanked: 1903Hello, and welcome to SRP,
Interesting question. A wedge offers less flex, and feedback. I like them, especially the bigger ones.
Regards,
Robin

Thanked: 13245Some people think that the heavier grinds help out a new shaver because, they are more forgiving to technique error...
Some think that heavier grinds shave heavier beards better..
Some think that the heavier ie: older blades have slightly softer steel, and therefore have a smoother edge....
There of course is no hard fast proof of any of this, as in much of this hobby, much is just opinion....
My advice is try as many different razors as you can after about 6 months of shaving, and then decide which work best for you....

I was lucky enough to get the winning bid on the bay. It's my first wedge and can't wait.

Thanked: 190The weight, noise (feedback with hollow ground), flexibility, and the effort to keep them sharp.
What I care about most is the following:
1) The effort to maintain the sharp edge?
2) Performance day in day out?
Just do what most of us do, buy about 6 different straight razors and shave with all of them in a rotation. When you get bored of one, sell it on SRP.

If you bought that razor you're a lucky guy it is a beauty. I like wedges, half and quarter hollows, and full hollows but I probably like full hollow best simply for ease of sharpening and they shave me well. Not that the other grinds don't but they are more work to sharpen. Especially those old Sheffield full wedges.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
