    Default Personal instruction

    Good morning,

I am wondering if there are any users in Northern Illinois that would be willing to meet up with me and spend an hour or two showing me the proper technique for stropping and honing. I wouldn't mind driving to them, or meeting them somewhere. I also wouldn't mind paying for the help, or at the very buying lunch.

If you are available and interested to help this newbie out I would very much appreciate it! Thanks,

    -Ty

Welcome to SRP ! Heckuva group. You've already got someone to volunteer their help. Read the SRP Wiki too and you'll find a lot of good info in there.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thank you all for your replies, and thanks to Mark for volunteering to give me a hand. I've been reading SRP for the last 3 weeks or so, and have found great information. It's great to have a community willing to help each other out.

That's a really good idea and I encourage you to pursue it. There's really only so much mentoring that can take place on line. I'm lucky to have a guy here locally who has shown me the ropes.

Well Veleno came over today, and let me just say, "thank you!"

He not only show me how lap my hones, hone my razor, strop my razor, and test the sharpness, he also gave me a bunch of samples of different soaps that he uses. He also offered to show me how to paste a strop, but I am not ready to try and learn another thing yet.

My razor is shaving much better now, and besides figuring out that I probably rolled the edge at the end of a stropping session by picking up the razor incorrectly, I was very relieved that he thought my general stropping was decent.

Thanks SRP! I sound like a commercial. I only hope one do to help another newbie. Maybe I'll convince some friends to start SR shaving once I know what I'm doing.
