Thread: FINALLY got my first SR shave!

Just had my first SR shave. I live in a fraternity house in a suite of 5 guys; they were rooting for me the whole way (I think they wanted to see myself get cut though haha). I nicked under the right side of my jaw a bit; I really need to watch that horizontal motion a little better, but it was nothing the styptic pencil couldn't clean right up. It took about 45 minutes total. I used the Antique Boker Rastus No 51 that hi_bud_gl honed for me. I did a WTG pass then went partly XTG and partly ATG. Result was mostly BBS. I almost got nicked a couple times from the spike point, but I was careful enough to avoid it. It was definitely the best shave I've ever had and I can't wait to actually get good at this stuff

Congratulations on the first shave. Sounds like you did great, even with the pressure of an audience.

Congratulations! I wish I had started when I was in college. Enjoy your shaves and try to convert those roomies of yours. We can always use new "blood" in our fold.

Oh I think it's already too late for that... xD

And I'm going to be working on converting the suite-mates into SR shaving, I'll just need a couple more shaves to show them how awesome it is (although I fear they may subconsciously feel they are too cool for it). I'll keep working on it!

great job and welcome to the club. so who or what got you started? i wish i knew about straights when i was younger. also cant go wrong with a boker. tell your roomies its about time to MAN UP !

Well about 2 years a friend go me started on using the brush and soap you can get from Walgreens. He mentioned straight shaving but he didn't do it so neither did I. Then I went to college at the end of the year and started back on canned goo after the first semester (I wasn't getting the lather right because I didn't know better so I didn't realize how wonderful it is). My Mom knew I had been using a brush and soap and didn't know that I had stopped. She went on vacation with some friends and went into some small shop. She saw the brush and cream you see in the picture and decided to buy them for me. About a week later I watched Sweeney Todd. This was strike 3 and by then I had quite the interest in the subject. I then started googling and youtubing to find more information on straight shaving. I stumbled upon Lynn's amature shave video he made. The video led me right to SRP. Once I found SRP there was no going back, I was hooked. And that's my story!
