Thanked: 0Just Got Straight Razor for Present
Just got straight razor for gift. Not sure where to start. It is a DOVO Classic 4/8 Black Straight Razor. I also have brush and shaving mug soap.
I was wondering best way to start.

welcome to srp
you will have to get a good strop and also ensure that the edge on that razor is good for shaving (they usually aren't from the factory and need additional honing, which may or may not have been done on your razor). if you look in the classifieds section under member services you will find members who offer honing.

Thanked: 0The paperwork with blade stated Pre-sharpened. Does this mean that it is good to go, or should I have honed?

Welcome to SRP. If it came from Straight Razor Designs, Classic Shaving, or Vintage Blades it should be good to go. Other than that I don't know. If you want to give it a try here is SRP founder Lynn Abrams suggestions for beginning straight razor shaving. As noted by previous posters you will find more info in the SRP Wiki here.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

you will want to get a strop to so you can do that before each shave to keep the blade sharp. RupRazor.com has a nice cheap one http://ruprazor.com/store/index.php?...mart&Itemid=32

Welcome. It depends where it came from. If direct from the factory, the answer is probably not and you should have it honed. You can find the beginners guide in the Wiki here. It's well worth a read.

Thanked: 0The blade was purchased from classic shaving. But, I would still like to purchase strop and ensure the blade stays sharp. I am excited to use the blade but do not want to rush and have bad experience.

Shave with it a couple times before you try to strop so you get a feel for what it should be.We see a lot of newcomers who ruin a newly honed edge with improper stropping technique.

Thanked: 0Should I have a couple days growth for my first shave? Or is less better?
