Thanked: 4My Story
Well back about 05 October I made my 1st post on SRP and then I made my 2nd, 3rd, 4th & I think this puts me at number 5. Did that without a calculator - Ok I cheated and looked at the post counter.
Been working in Nigeria - 8 weeks there & 3 weeks home then back to Nigeria. Bought some stuff and it was waiting when I got home last Thursday.
Today was my 3rd try with a straight, 1st try was the best. Wackered my cheek this morning and turned my silver-tip kinda pink.
Here is what did it...
The cheek wacker (it also cut the beard pretty good too) is a Herebert Wacker "All Around-Master", 13/16 full hollow, Spanish Point in Ebony scales. For my 1st shave I used Straight Razor Designs' Bavarian Rose Shave Soap. Great lather from that big ol' brush & wack, wack, wack whiskers and soap suds flew everwhere. The wife was so proud. I was proud too, no bleeding. I was so excited that I forgot to brush my teeth, until my kids complained.
Not as comfortable when I tried my second shave (yesterday) though, so 1/2 way through that I made a few passes on my new Tony Miller "Traditional" 2.5" Latigo & Linen Strop. Thanks again for the Trust Tony! Finished my 2nd shave. I am sure that more practice with shaving will improve my technigue and lessen the blood flow. I did remember to brush my teeth. After putting everything away & cleaning up (wife not so proud this time), we loaded the kids into the car and went to Trader's Village - large flea market in Houston. Mostly junk, but I did find these 2 things and brought them home with me after giving the owner of the shop 100 bucks.
- Filarmonica Doble Temple #12, 5/8 full hollow square point. Very loose in the scales & the scales seam cheap. I am sure it is NOS, as the original wrapping paper was still in the original coffin and there were no hone marks and a perfect edge when viewed through my jeweler's loup. There was also evidence of some type of preservative coating on the blade. A few hammer taps on the blade's pin tightened this baby right up.
- Dovo Astrale 5/8" round point in Ebony scales. That is a MOP "Leo" inlaid in the scales. I am also sure that this is a new blade too as it had the plastic film over the gold wash on the blade, some type of preservative coating and also a perfect edge. Still in its original blue metal coffin with outer pasteboard cover and spec sheet.
This afternooon, after I stopped bleeding & it seemed the sutures were holding (just kidding) I took a few laps on the razor hone I purchased from "hi_bud_gl" aka Sham and then Tony Miller's practice strop. I also decided to take some pictures and was trying to arrange things just so to make them nice. There on my dresser I saw a little china bowl in Royal Dalton's Old Country Rose pattern. I have been looking for a new soap dish and I may have found it. And again my wife is not real proud.
What do ya'll think?
One last thing. I am not like others, so no apologies for this long post
All the Bets to you ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice kit you have there. Thanks for the pics. If you want to avoid more blood flow read my sig below and follow the advice. Works for me when I follow it.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Hi Mike, glad to have you here. I shave me best with slow deliberate strokes. As you well know, a flick of the wrist will spill blood. Start slow, and master shaving one part of your face before moving on and adding another portion to shave. As an alternative, master the WTG (with the grain) pass before adding the XTG (across the grain) pass. The ATG (against the grain) pass will be relatively easy at this point.
BTW, I agree with Jimmy, nice kit!I strop my razor with my eyes closed.

You really know how to jump into it dont you? Great set up, the Royal Dalton really sets it off.
It is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled. Twain
