Thread: Cream or Soap?

It's all personal preference. I personally love soaps, but in my situation creams are typically more convenient- I can put a dab on the brush or in a bowl and walk to the bathroom (less things to carry) and they lather a *little* faster than soaps I've found. But in the end the only way you can know is by trying a bunch. (samples)

So all of these comments are obviously great advise, but I can't help but wonder: where does Uberlather fall into the categories of glide, cushion, etc.? Is there actually an advantage to using Uberlather?

Thanked: 1903I've been asking myself that question more than once before. I really dislike the effect of glycerine, but - as always - if it works for you, that's great.

In my opinion, and only my opinion (NOT A FACT), I think a lot of the lather things are irrelevant. It could be that I am not experienced enough to tell the difference between the "cushioning" of one soap over another... in fact I have no clue what cushioning is. I also don't get the amount of lather or puffiness. When I look at my lather I ask only three things- 1)how well is it lubricating, 2)how well is it holding water, and 3)how does it feel (moisturizing, cleansing, etc). That's just my two cents. If I am not yet cultured enough to differentiate the minute properties of lather, I'll take that without argument, it very well could be the case.

Elementary my dear Watson, when you make uberlather, you try to maximize the shaving experience by getting the best of both worlds: the glide from soap and the cushion from the cream and add a bit of glycerin to enrich the lather even more. Usually, uberlather works better when you combine 2 products of moderate quality. Used this way, you end up with something that it is better than either of them. However, there are people that like using high end products in their uberlather. In my opinion, there is no need for that as good soaps and cream should have both glide and cushion anyway. This does not mean that it would not work though.
