Thanked: 2New guy here: Got Razor, ready to learn
Greetings: I just joined SRP forum this evening. What enticed me to join was the forum you all had on sharpening. I found it by using GOOGLE to search out some sharpening information. I'm mainly a knife collector but I do have a couple of straight razors I would like to learn more about. I'm really interested in learning to sharpen the razors and maybe learn to sharpen my knives better too. My friends on the other Forums I belong to call me JD and I registered as jdX because they said the other name I used had been taken ( JD Spydo).
I got a straight razor about 10 years ago from the Garrett Wade company out of New York City. At that time I paid close to $90 for it so I know it wasn't a piece of junk. It is a French made razor made by the Theirs Issard Company. I had a guy who is a razor specialist in Phoenix AZ examine it and he told me that it was a pretty nice piece. I'm here to learn and hopefully make some friends. Feel free to PM me or e-mail me to get aquainted.
I am mainly a Spyderco/Benchmade knife collector and I am a sharpening fanatic and I hope I can learn some more about Sharpening from you guys. Thanks for letting me participate. I'm looking forward to a good time. JD aka jdX

Welcome to SRP!
You'll find more than you could have ever hoped for in the wiki. If you don't already have one, pick up a strop, brush, soap, and have that baby honed up.

Thanked: 2Already have strops and sharpening stones
I have 3 strops. One of them is a brand new Russian strop, one is a strop on a paddle that came with the razor when I bought it from Garrett Wade, the third one is a hand made one I got from a guy in Arkansas that made them out of a really soft leather. I use it for my knife sharpening.
I'm definitely going to get some other supplies because I sure would like to learn to shave with it. I also want to master the skill of sharpening it. I have several sharpening stones from my knife hobby and I'm sure some of them are suitable for straight razor sharpening.
I'm definitely going to check this place out.

Thanked: 2A lot of razors here in Missouri
What's interesting about being here in Missouri is there is no shortage of older straight razors for sure. I am mainly a knife collector who has recently gotten interested in straight razors. But every knife show, gun show and most flea markets, garage sales and antique malls here in Missouri have tons of old straight razors for sale.
In the past I've passed up on several Boker, Dubl Duck, Keen Kutter and a few other great brands of straight razors here at all the shows here in Missouri. It seems like there are a lot of straight razors for sale down in Arkansas which is only a 3 to 4 hour drive from where I live. They have good knife shows in LIttle Rock and they always have a lot of older razors for sale. Which is why I want to learn about this hobby too. The only problem I have however is now I won't even have enough money to even buy groceries with this new hobby added on to the one I already had
