    Default I'm getting there.

After a stumbling start, I asked myself if the improved quality of a shave with a straight razor was worth the extra effort involved.

Had a fabulous shave today, two really good passes with the straight, then tidy up with my DE.

I'm beginning to understand the enthusiasm for straight shaving. I'm not that interested in stropping and honing and collecting razors. But I do love a delightful, smooth close shave. And I'm pleased to concede that a DE or any other razor has never left me feeling as good as I do today.

And this is after only a few straight shaves. So I think I'm getting there.

Mind you, it helped to be using a 40 year old Yardley's Shaving Soap given to me by a friend yesterday. If you are interested here's a link to a piece in my blog that leads to a post elsewhere about this little gem.

Glad you're getting there and enjoying the journey!

It becomes alot more enjoyable once things start to fall into place and make sense.

Good luck and keep us posted!

I'm one of many many members who started out thinking they'd get one or two razors to last a lifetime, and the minimal amount of sharpening tools to keep them fresh.

Next thing you know you surprise your wife by asking her to go antiquing and you have a cabinet full of auction razors, restoration supplies and whetstones!

Congrats on the smooth shave and here's to many more.

I started out with the same thought of not wanting to strop and sharpen and just used disposable straight blades and bought three types: Diane 21, Shavette, and Feather. I learned to shave with these first before I caught the bug to buy traditional straight razors.

I still use the disposables in the rotation and always use them when I travel or have a friend who wants to try out straight shaving. The experience of using these has helped me manage my fixed straight razors better and helped me make good decisions on what traditional fixed straight razors to purchase. Straight Shaving clearly delivers the best shave and the satisfaction is undeniably awesome!

    Good Luck!

+1 All those years with a DE or a Gillette 'Good News'. Fido, now that you've started to get the hang of it you'll find it will get better and better .... IME.
