    Default JA Henckels Production dates

I just bought a JA Henckels #50 as my first razor and I was wondering what years the razor was made. I have searched but not found the answer. Any help would be appreciated.

First off welcome to SRP. This is the place to learn about Straight Razors. As for your razor, there is a Straight Razor data base in the WIKI Category:Straight Razor Database - Straight Razor Place Wiki
I don't know too much about That manufacturer only that they have been around a long time and that they make great shavers.

    JA HENCKELS
    Solingen, Germany
at least ca. 1731 - present

This info came from a manufacturers data base on line. Hopefully there will be someone to give you more insight in shortly but I can let you know We work better when we can see pics of the razors in question. Actually we like pictures period.

Use the WIKI here to learn about how to shave with a str8 ask questions and just remember to take your time this is not only a way to shave it's an art to itself. Again welcome and good luck.

I had looked those years up but was wanting something a little more specific than 1900-1968. The seller said they may not be the original scales but I don't really care. They say excelsior 22 on the inside of each scale. I also just bought a norton 4000/8000 stone, theirs-issard double sided paddle strop with 1.0 and .5 micron diamond paste, and a dovo best russian leather strop. That should cover everything I will need to hone and sharpen my razor, if not what else?

I know this thread has been dead for quite a long time now, but I found it on a google search while attempting to determine the approximate age of a similar Henckels razor; the one I bought had a "1" instead of "50" but is otherwise fairly similarly marked.

Just wanted to let you know if you haven't found what you were looking for, that it's likely from about the early 1920's.

I ultimately went to the Henckels customer service form on the web with a question about dating a razor, and they asked for photos of the markings to forward on to the archives in Germany. Around a week or two later, they sent scans of the cover and a page from a 1922 catalog showing several different razors from their line that year which included both the "1" and the "50" marking above the "twins" on the shank. I didn't want to further impose with a follow-up question about whether this product line is unique to 1922 or was maybe similar for a stretch of several years.

Mine's also got the marking "Graef & Schmidt" on the back side of the shank (G&S were apparently the primary or exclusinve U.S. distributor of Henckels razors for some period), not sure if the lack of a mark on yours is singificant in any way.

Looks like a great piece, though and if your shaves as good as mine, I'm sure you've been enjoying it for the last year+.

Hope that helps in some way

I just acquired a #106 1/2 inch J A Henckels Twinworks straight razor and am wondering about when it was made. By the marks in the earlier post it is between 1900 and 1968. Hoping to narrow it down.
