Default New here - Hi everyone!

I just found a straight edge razor in an exchange shop - a Timor Bluesteel 150 hollow ground Solingen blade - belonged to some old chap named Hewitt by the scrapes on the box. I disinfected it and sharpened it on a regular belt with some tooth paste on it (mild abrasive). Never got perfectly sharp but it did get more than sharp enough. ( I know how n00bish this all sounds but I'm still starting out and will slowly work my way up to a full traditional shaving set - altho it still works well enough and I'm kinda psyked!)

So anyways . . . Glad to be here and looking forward to talking about this!

    Welcome to SRP!

Toothpaste? I'm not sure that's what they mean by 'pasted strop'

If can swing it, send that razor out to be honed, if not, I've used automotive 2000 grit sandpaper and a pasted strop with good results....though most frown on that idea as well.

But how else do you prevent cavities?

Welcome to SRP. I second the motion that you send it out to be professionally honed. World of difference. Check out the SRP Wiki here . There is a beginner's guide and tutorials on all things related to straight razor shaving.

Hello and welcome to SRP. Do consider sending the razor out to be honed and a read through the WIKI (see the menu bar above) will be very helpful. With a properly honed razor and a read through the WIKI you will enjoy your journey into straight shaving.
