Gobble gobble!
Whatsup gents? Its me Chop again(although stuffed with holiday fixings).Ive decided to go with the Gold Dollar DA.Although it comes shave ready with edge warranty,I would still enjoy learning how to hone.Ive decided to order the strop/razor combo.I shouldnt have to worry about honing for at least the next few upcoming months, but when the time comes around, what is the best honing kit for beginners?I found Norton 4K/8k stones reasonably priced online(Ive heard a lot of good about these). Also what is "lapping"?Is it necessary before or after initial use?How often is it necessary?

yes, get the norton 4000/8000 combo. lapping is making it flat by rubbing on a flat abrasive surface (lapping plate, another coarser hone like dmt-c, or sandpaper). with the norton you'll want to do that before every honing because the surface tends to glaze.

And for a bit more money, you can get this set that includes a lapping stone and a 220/1k for setting bevels and getting rid of chips, etc. This stone may be useful if you develop a case of RAD and start buying razors at flea markets, antique shops and ebay.
