Yep, happens to us all. I think that our razors are so sharp that it severs the neurons before it can send a pain message...I've cut myself a bunch of times and it never hurts. Now catching yourself on a Mach3 HURTS! I think that the first blade cuts and the second grabs it and gives it a hearty yank...you'll certainly feel that.

i agree, it happens to all of us. you do not even know. i have been shaving and look down to rinse the blade off and look back into the mirror and think to myself i must be in one of those slasher movies. blood running everywhere and i think, when the heck did i do that.
i was given good advice by a senior member once, never, never take you eyes off of the blade no matter where it is....

Wet the end of the pencil first before use.

I agree sometimes it just gets you for one reason or another.

Its all in the learning curve

+1 on wetting the styptic. Then just swish it around on the nick trying to get the white pasty stuff into the cut.Whenever someone asks about a nick I've got, I just say"that's my razor teaching me discipline"

i agree on the nicks as part of the learning curve. i also wear the nicks as a badge of courage. most people will not even try to shave with a straight, we on the other hand can not wait until the next shave. i will say one more thing about nicks and down right cuts that i have found to be true, and that is you will remember exactly what you did to get that nick or cut and mostly do not repeat the mistake. i guess this is the hard part of the learning curve. even with the nicks, i would never ever go back to disposable crap.

Same for me - I usually don't notice my nicks until I look up and see some blood. Nothing too deep ever, but they're particularly scary looking on the sides of the neck. My question is: How long have you been shaving nick free? The first time I went at my chin I walked away with a bunch of nicks!

I use "Nick Stick" by Pacific Shaving instead of the regular styptic pencil. It's a roll on liquid and I think it works pretty good.

i did not say i was "nick" free.. it is a progression, i guess. the worse nicks were when i started out. then they got less and less. BUT and i do mean a big but, just when you think you are so good at this..bang..there goes another nick...i guess i am still learning too...still would not go back to the other ways of shaving. this has so many options. shave cream, shave soap, different scents, different straights, different shave brushes, different aftershaves....too much fun to go back to the other boring ways..
