Collecting before shaving
Well, As luck would have it or not... I'm stuck out of town for another week and my shaving purchases are not with me.. I'm sure that they have arrived safely to my home while I'm out of town.. I've listened to Lynn's DVD three times and he's begining to put me to sleep.
So, the other day I bought another razor! Well, I have read enough and studied enough to know that it was a good deal. It's another shave ready, wonderfully restored razor off ebay. The work is done by one of SRP's member's and I am sure it is in great condition. No one was bidding on it and I felt like I couldn't let it go for such a rediculously low price, for a great shave ready razor.... so I bought it!!
That makes three razor's and I haven't shaved with a straight razor yet. Hmm...Anyway.... I'm sure it will fit nicely in some sort of razor rotation I hear you all talking about. But, if I'm stuck having fun trying to find great deals on straight razors on ebay, antique stores, etc... I need a reference book of some kind..
Can anyone recommnend a collectors guide on straight razors? Who know's maybe I'll never shave and just collect! Don't think so.. Have a great day and thanks for the help in advance. Happy Holidays!

It is out of print but available from used booksellers and I've seen it on ebay once in awhile, Straight Razor Collecting by Robert Doyle. Really cool book IMO.

I believe there is a book called Goin's Encyclopedia that goes over razor brands and marking. I don't have it and think it's more of a reference than a collector's guide, but it's out there. I believe Manah has it and I'm sure other members do as well.
Personally, I always use the SRP database as a reference. We collect the good shavers, but there are people who collect razors because of the scales or just the age.

Maq, If you want to know only collectors information, these two books will be enough. If something deeper: history, stamps ..., you need more books, documents.

Razor Collecting
Thank you all for the great information. Looks like these two books are the ones to look for.. I'll see if I can find one, then the other.. There's a lot to learn but plenty of time. No other way to really know if you are finding a bargain or not..I'm not always looking for a bargain though, sometimes I'm just looking for the right deal.. Thanks again for all your help.

If you want some excellent info on old razors off of the web scroll up to manah's post and click on his website. He has compiled some great info on many brands.
