a quick post
okay I gotta make this quick but I gotta brag a little as well....I shaved this morning after my shower and just like yesterday morning ZERO NICKS and a mighty fine shave as well if I do say so myself.....I am disapointed only that it took me so long to begin this fine journey with straight razor shaving.....=

Shaving used to be a chore for me,
NOW I look forward to my shaves, take my time, pick out the soap or cream that best suits my mood. Use the appropriate brush depending on the day of the week.
So nice, So smooth...
I will drink to that

When I started the first week I was so cautious I didn't Nick myself either. Then came the overconfidence and you know what happened. So just keep your guard up.

Thanked: 2I also used to hate shaving every morning, and now I look forward to it. It's fun the practice and improve my skill, and the warm water feels great. I have been lucky in that I haven't really knicked myself bad at all yet. I'm sure I'll get careless and do it soon. I took a week on just my cheeks, then another week on cheeks and neck, then another on cheeks neck and jawline, then another on cheeks neck jawline and mustache area, then I finally went to the entire face. Working on those easier areas gave me time to get used to using the SR.
The only problem....I sent my only SR to Lynn for honing on monday Until it returns I am using disposable BIC razors. This would be a good excuse to get another razor, but alas I am not ready for that investment yet.

Thanked: 2I have a Norton 4/8 and a yellow Belgian Coticule with a slurry stone. The problem is I don't know how sharp to hone it. I figured I would let Lynn hone it once or twice for me, so that I know what a properly honed razor feels like, and then I'll hone it myself afterwards.
It's like when your dad teaches you how to change your oil. He helps you once or twice, until you know what you are doing, and then you can do it yourself after that.
I will say that I didn't know that I needed to lap my 4/8 when I first got it.
