I have a confession
I have a confession, I still have not started straight razor shaving as I don't have the money to buy a blade and strop (just found getting laid off on the 31st of this month, Merry Christmas . Anyway, my real confession is that I have out, by reading this forum, that if I prep my face like I am going to use a straight razor, and if I lather up after each directional shave, I can get a bbs shave with a disposable while shaving in the shower. Now the caviat to this is that I can only shave every 3 days as it is a little rough on my skin, but I can still get it.... hmmm...

Getting into SR shaving is not a race. Nothing wrong with practicing the basics until you can get the equipment.

Thanked: 15Perhaps you could try a DE (Double Edge) razor, which is much cheeper and you won't irritate your skin at all. Let me know (send me a PM) and I'll send you one with a pack of blades to try.
In the future, when you have means, you can buy the str8/strop, etc.

Gawd I love corporate America, its always around Christmas! Either you cant take care of the family at the holidays or they do it so you've spent the money and then they sack you. I hope its just a layoff and not the usual, "we're going to lay you off" and then never call you back. Send me a PM with your adress and I'll send a razor, it may not be fancy, but it will be clean and sharp and ready to shave!
Anybody else out there who can help this brother? It is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled. Twain

Thanked: 190You could get a disposable straight razor relatively inexpensive and you do not have to worry about stropping.
Shaving once every three days and the blades will last you for months. I started almost a year ago this way and I still have blades that have not been used. After 4 weeks of straight shaving, I started to buy fixed straight razors and strops.
I still use the disposable straight razor in my rotation and its nice to take a break from stropping. I always use the disposable straight razors when I travel.
Just a thought for you based on my experience.
