    Default "SQUIRREL" Razor

I found a straight razor among my uncle's things with the word "SQUIRREL" in capital letters stamped on the blade shaft. It has a yellowed handle that I don't whether it's celluloid, ivory or bone. Can anybody tell me about it? Thanks.

    Hello,
The scales are celluloid. Can't help on the maker, but it's seen plenty of time on the hones. Despite that, it looks like you could make a shaver of it, if you were so inclined.

I duhno if I agree Ben, looks as if it's seen too much hone time to really be a workhorse shaver. I would say clean her up and mount her for display, but that's me, esp if it's a family heirloom. One drop in the bathroom could ruin it.

    Good luck with it.

I have a morris sculptor edge with about the same amount of blade left, as well as as bad or worse oxidation/rust/pitting.

It actually shaves pretty decent. In my top 5, I'd figure. You just have to control it. The blade doesn't contribute as much guidance as deeper ones will.
