Thanked: 2New guy, future straight shaver
hey all
I've been shaving with a DE for a while now, mainly with old Gillette Super Speeds. Over the past six months I've been feeling a strong pull towards straight razors (and lurking here ) and will be diving in once I can gather together all the necessary tools.
Thanks for listening & happy shaving!

Thanked: 39Welcome! You will find it friendly here and very informative. Don't be afraid to ask questions and enjoy your journey!
Oh, I forgot! Since you are a DE shaver, all the tools you will need is a straight razor and strop! You probably have everything else! You can get those two things for yourself for Christmas! KenRup Razors has a great deal on starter sets and I believe that he is now matching the "hone for life" offer that Straight Razor Designs has on their razors (that are fabulously discounted for Christmas!).
Come on in, the waters fine! I did and am having the time of my life!Last edited by flylot; 12-14-2009 at 02:23 PM.

Welcome, SRP is a wealth of knowledge for the Straight razor user or want to be user. Look around and ask any questions, you will defiantly get an answer. There are also a lot of good resources here to help you gather the necessary equipment, like our Wiki page or our Classifieds. Good Luck, and God Bless.

Welcome to SRP!
Give the Wiki a good read (Straight Razor Place Wiki) and search out posts on this site for things you are interested in.
Most of all, enjoy the journey! Theres loads to learn and lots of great things to try out. Different razors, soaps, creams, strops, hones, aftershaves...! The list goes on..!
Good luck and dont be afraid to ask questions as this is a very friendly and welcoming community!

Welcome aboard. I think you'll find that shaving with a straight is so rewarding that you'll never consider shaving any other way. However, be prepared for a significant learning curve. You not only have to figure out how to shave well with a straight, but also how to hone your razors. Also, be prepared to succumb to the "acquisition disorders" (the desire for more and more shaving stuff).

Welcome to SRP. Good that you've got some DE experience under your belt. Having prep and lathering down before you start straight razor shaving cuts the learning curve considerably. You might start by using stretching techniques with the DE that you will need to use with the straight unless you already do so. If you don't stretch yet you'll find when you do that it will improve your shave no matter which type of razor you use.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 2Thanks all for the warm welcome. I'm truly in awe of the wiki here. There's enough information there I should ask school if I can get credits for it. Surely that must count for some type of lifetime learning.
Lifetime honing sounds wonderful; I'll be sure to take a look at both of them.
Thanks again everyone, and Merry Christmas!

Another great source of info is on YouTube. Just type in straight razor in the search box. Theres allot of SRP members there demonstrating shaving too. Enjoy & ask as many questions as you need, there's plenty of SRP members to answer any question-!!
